On May 28, 2019, in Washington, D.C., 24 Santa Clara Law alumni were admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States. Retired Justice Edward A. Panelli BS ’53, JD ’55 was the movant who presented the group, by individual names, for admission to the court to Chief Justice John Roberts. Another justice present on Monday’s bench observing alumni admissions was Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Each year, Santa Clara Law celebrates the beginning of the academic year with a gathering of incoming students, alumni, faculty, staff, and members of the judiciary. Akshay Verma JD ’06 will be this year’s Convocation speaker. Verma spent seven years practicing in the environmental field at Pillsbury Winthrop and Farella Braun + Martell. In 2012, he transitioned into a legal consulting role at Axiom Global, where he spent over six years supporting Silicon Valley’s largest technology companies on legal department strategy. He currently works in a legal strategy/operations role at Facebook and he is also a lecturer at Santa Clara Law. Read more.
A sunny July afternoon at the newly re-opened SCU neighborhood landmark, The Hut, was the setting for a gathering to honor B.T. Collins BA ’70 JD ’73 and celebrate the memorial law scholarship in his name. Among the crowd were scholarship committee members, faculty, friends, and many past scholarship recipients, including awardees from 2018 to as far back as 1993, which was the first year that the scholarship was awarded, shortly after Collins’ passing. As those gathered shared memories of Collins, there was a common thread among this diverse group: a sense of awe at his legacy of leadership and public service, as well as the loyalty he has inspired.

Each year, the publication highlights 40 outstanding Silicon Valley men and women for their contributions and accomplishments. A partner in the Silicon Valley office of Latham & Watkins, Cuneo serves as co-chair of the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Corporate Departments and global co-chair of the firm’s Life Sciences and Healthcare Industry Group.
