IN MEMORIAM

1963 Jeremiah “Jerry” R. Scott, March 7, 2020. Jerry Scott of Humboldt County passed away at age 83 at his home in Eureka, California. After graduation from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, he was commissioned as an officer in the U. S. Army infantry. He served eight years active and reserve duty. He earned his JD from Santa Clara Law and joined his father in the Scott & Scott law firm which served Humboldt County for more than 84 years. He also served as the founding attorney and general counsel for the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District and served in that capacity for 30 years. He is remembered for his polished professionalism combined with his integrity, caring for others, delightful humor, and an adventurous spirit. He is survived by his wife, Mary Griswold, three children, six grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

1966 Honorable Edwin B. Pearce, II, March 2, 2020. Judge Pearce began his law career with Allstate Insurance and later joined the District Attorney’s Office in Santa Clara County, CA. After 12 years with the District Attorney’s Office, he was elected as a Superior Court Judge. Judge Pearce was twice re-elected and served on the bench until his retirement in 2001. He was a proud member of the San Jose Scottish Rite, Masons, Alpha Tau Omega, and Los Pescadores (Elks). An athletic person who loved all sports, especially golf, he was also an avid runner and enjoyed participating in the Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco and the Wharf to Wharf in Santa Cruz. He is survived by his wife Martha of 33 years; two sons, as well as many nieces and nephews.
